| About Us California Drug Counseling Inc. (CADC) is a Sec. 501(c)(3) nonprofit, licensed* community-based substance abuse treatment and counseling center. CADC began in 1977 and received its first major grant in 1989 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which provided for incarcerated and paroled youth to be educated about and become peer educators on HIV/AIDS. Since then, we have continued to provide outpatient education, counseling and support to individuals with alcohol and substance abuse problems, helping them become productive members of their community. Our projects include a number of contracts with Federal and State sources. We focus on meeting the needs of hard-to-reach, difficult and underserved populations in Los Angeles County, including currently or formerly incarcerated individuals. ![]() Our successes come from combining proven and results-oriented behavioral change theory, with the expertise of a highly trainedlicensed and certifiedteam of professionals. CADC employees hold Masters or Ph.D. level degrees, or have special certificates in drug or alcohol counseling. They’re a cut above in their expertise, background and knowledge level. We use the science of applied cognitive behavior change tailored to the individual needs of each clientwell-tested models that are based on scientific theory, with proven outcomes. We pride ourselves on the fact that we help our clients change their behaviors in a positive way. Self-directed and self-motivated behavior change is presented in an easy-to-understand manner designed to assist each individual’s growth. For most of our clients, their substance abuse represents only one part of a larger web of issues. Our clients may be in difficult personal and family relationships; need housing, clothing, or a job; or lack transportation. At CADC, we understand this, and treat the whole person. Our holistic approach is reflected in the many disciplines in which members of our staff have expertise. Counselors include professionals degreed in psychology, sociology and social work, along with specialties in alcohol and drug studies and criminology.
